by Ridley Scott.

Here is the article.

If Scott's the one behind it then I'm totally into seeing where this goes.

Still not sure about this, even with Scott attached.

This thread could have had so much more potential for a title.....

What a fucking waste.

RIDLEY TO EXPAND HIS DICK WORK

DICK TO BE REWORKED BY SCOTT

NEW DICK COMING SOON

WILL NEW DICK BE AS GOOD AS OLD DICK?

SCOTT FINDS DICK HARD TO QUIT

So much potential. This is why potential never got anyone anywhere. It just gets wasted.

Have you seen the leaked Prometheus screenshots? Hell, I've been rolling my eyes consistently until those caps hit the net, so maybe Ridley's got this.

I'll take a peek at those, hopefully it will make me a ittle less apprehensive about the whole idea.

Can't wait for the Gladiator prequel, Ridley! And let's get a sequel to Black Rain while you're at it.

Now that I've seen them, I'm glad they went with the original Amalgamated Dynamics designs, and not that shitty Giger stuff.

New Blade Runner? (sigh). I'm not terribly interested even with Scott at the helm. But I'll echo what they're saying over at Digital Bits -- I would LOVE to see Scott take on a completely new sci-fi idea. We need one -- bad!

Prometheus sounds promising but it still has it's roots as an Alien property so I'll be unable to watch it without trying to pick out what bits are leftover.

Either way, I'll still probably go see it anyway. But there still plenty of time for this to go off the rails.

Ridley's about 10 years past his sell-by date. Not sure how anyone could be even mildly excited for anything he has planned.

I suppose I'm in the minority by respecting the hell out of Blade Runner without liking it very much. It's technically staggering and perhaps the most visually influential movie of the past three decades, but the gumshoe/murder mystery aspects of the story aren't compelling, the characters are flat and uninteresting, and the emotional aspects (aside from maybe Rutger Hauer's "tears in rain" speech) don't really gel. This is a movie I revisit every few years hoping it'll fully "click" with me, and yet I always coming away wishing I loved it as much as most critics do (well, now they do...most critics kind of shrugged it off back in '82, and audiences stayed away in droves). The movie never comes together either as a noir thriller or a tragic romance, and just sort of sits there, a visually magnificent piece of art direction, visual effects and cinematography that I can't give a damn about as a narrative. I own the 5-disc Blu-Ray set, and am glad I own it just for the film's important place in film history and the filmography of Ridley Scott, but I find it cold and unsatisfying (no matter which of the 5,000 cuts you watch). A very good film, I suppose, but like a lot of Scott movies, it just lacks warmth. And I know that's probably the point of the film, but....ergh. :?

If Scott were to go back to the source material and actually make Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, he might be on to something. As it stands there's simply no way he'll be able to achieve the same prophetic look as the original. Dude should leave well enough alone.

But it rhymed! I thought you'd appreciate that aspect of it. Seriously, even the meter works well.

Going back to what Surf, Cru, CK and some others have been saying, I agree that there's no way he'll capture that same mojo this time around. If he's smart, he won't even try. However, there's a lot of potential in the Blade Runner world for a story that's very good and perhaps even incorporates a new or twisted sci-fi vision.

Honestly, I'm just happy to see Scott in the sci-fi genre again. Unlike Monty, I love Blade Runner. I wrote two long papers on the movie while in college mostly just so I could justify watching the film repeatedly as homework. There are a million places to go exploring in that universe.

Scott has done, like, 5 lame movies in a row. Why would anyone care about this?

Body of Lies and Kingdom of Heaven are not lame. However I completely agree about the other three Russell Crowe movies he's done in that group. That said, none of them were sci-fi. When Scott does sci-fi, I'm interested.

American Gangster is a good film.

Considering the movie wouldn't be released before 2013, I can't wait to see how Scott portrays the wild and crazy future of 6 years later.

Scott-of-late is the very definition of a 6/10er.

We're getting too old to waste our times on 6/10s.

I wouldn't even go 6/10.

But if you get the art direction as on-point as they did on Prometheus, that'll be good enough for me.

Unless Syd Mead is involved, there is no point to be on.

Blade Runner is my absolutely favorite movie that isn't called Cherry 2000, but I'm slightly conflicted. If this is more of a different story set in the Blade Runner universe rather than a continuous self-referencing bit of grandstanding, I will be a lot more interested.

But I don't want anyone back from the original movie.

Except for Lo Pan. Lo Pan can be in whatever Lo Pan wants.

Lo Pan won't be in this one.

I will be starring in the sequel as Egg Shen.

I'd like to point out as kind of a member of the Asian community, I still can't grow a beard anywhere near Victor Wong's hobo-scrab at 30.

Same. Love the movie, love the source material, and when Ridley Scott is good (which isn't all too often lately) he's good.

But at the moment, my feeling is, "Are you sure you want to do this?" It's one of those sequel ideas where there doesn't seem to be a point beyond revisiting past glories.

Maybe they'll take another Philip K. Dick story and wedge it into the DADOES/Blade Runner world. That might be cool.

Official teaser trailer:

I guess Ridley can't play coy about this being directly related to Alien anymore.

That's kinda been one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood. The appearance of the Derelict ship and the space jockey all but confirm the direct relation to the Alien franchise.

Hard to tell too much from the trailer, but so far this looks good. Chalize Theron (who I have a major hard-on for at the moment) looks amazingly like "Zero-suit" Samus Aran from Nintendo's Metroid games with that blue uniform.

One thing, if you ever find yourself needing to run from a giant rolling object - do me a fucking kindness, run perpendicular to the actual path that the object is rolling. This is just common sense people.
