As if he wasn't awesome enough, Renner might be the first actor ever to be granted an A-list action career opportunity (Town/M:I/Avengers/Bourne...) based on being in a box office disappointment.

This doesn't fully count as a movie I watched, but:

Jason Bourne (2016)

I loved the initial trilogy. It was a kinetic, exciting series of action thrillers with a solid premise, good intrigue, and fantastic setpieces. Then truly the Bond movies of the modern age.

So I wanted to check out this revival with Damon back in the lead. Happened to get it free in my Movies Anywhere digital library, so I checked it out.

I'm not sure I got 30 minutes into it before turning it off. It just annoyed me at every turn. The awful cliched soundtrack, the clumsy attempts at making a hacking scene seem dramatic (the editing was embarrassing!), the unbelievable way Bourne was supposedly in hiding (one of the most wanted special agents on the globe hides as one of the best underground fighters in the world? What?), the shit staging of the action (the whole Greece sequence was a dizzying mess).

I got through that escape in Greece and said, "Nah." Turned it off.

It had to have gotten better, because it couldn't have gotten worse. What rubbish.

Fucking Greengrass. :flip: Not even scenes of characters STANDING IN A ROOM TALKING are exempt from his jittery, handheld camerawork. Why does a $100 million Hollywood movie look like Uncle Bob's 8MM home movies from 1978? Buy a fucking tripod!!
