There has never been -- nor will there ever be -- a good movie based on a video game.

I didn't know you could see into the future. That's awesome!

Do you ever get laid?

And, yes, there have been good movies based on video games. Mortal Kombat kicked ass, as did every one that Chris mentioned, along with Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Resident Evil, even Tomb Raider was decent.

But, Man, precognition, huh? That truly is awesome.

Absolutely, 100% absurd. As a lifelong film aficionado you should know better than to make such a ridiculous proclamation.

A fantastic, top quality, highly popular video game adaptation is inevitable. The medium is to today what comics were to the 50s and 60s. The writing gets better every year. Young up and coming filmmakers will have grown up with them and will feel closely connected to many of the stories and characters. A great video game movie is inevitable.

Thi will be especially true when the games that aren't "gamey" and "comic booky" are adapted. There's going to be a film made from a game that's a little more "straight," a character-driven adventure of some sort, and others will follow.

Some of the Resident Evil movies were a good deal of fun, so we've gotten some decent ones already.

We'll have a truly great one within 10 years.

I guess I'll end my forum break with a reply to this:

Forward Unto Dawn -- the live action Halo webseries that was edited into a single film -- is more awesome that it has any right to be.

It was all marketing, really. Meant to promote Halo 4 -- featuring a throwaway story about the opening of the Convenent war. Bargain-basement effects -- check. No name actors -- check. The whole thing has a Syfy level of cheapiness hanging over it, but it manages to be pretty awesome nonetheless.
