Seriously. Best movie I've seen all year and rivals Pan's Labyrinth for Del Toro's best piece of work. It's fucking genius.

It's a good sequel to Creature. Are we pretending this is a sequel to Creature from the Black Lagoon?

I also adored this movie (best of 2017 thus far, and I don't see anything unseating it in the next few weeks). The bizarre mixture of genres and tone shouldn't have worked, but they do, to amazing effect.

It totally could be. I mean, I was predisposed to like it because of that but really it's so much more than a Creature movie. I've been wanting Del Toro to make a great movie along the lines of Pan's Labyrinth or The Devil's Backbone for years now. The guy is a master but movies like Pacific Rim or even Hellboy don't show him at his best. They're fun as hell (both Hellboy movies are personal favorites), but I really wanted him to knock another one out of the park. He totally did it with this one.

Eager to see this. Cary's recommendation carries some weight, too, because he's not a jackass like you are, person reading this.

I still resent that you said I had bad taste in films to the 4 other people watching your live-stream. To be fair, I can't remember if that was 3-beer Shoe or 7-beer shoe.

Hold onto that feeling. Let it eat a hole in your belly. Then, one day when the weather is beautiful but it smells like rain is coming, take a trip east and murder me in my driveway.

Did you see this yet, Shoe? My daughter and I are going back for a second viewing this weekend.

Saw this on Saturday with my wife, who liked it, but proclaimed it "weird". Well, yeah it's weird. It's a love story about a mute woman and a fish guy, of course it's fucking weird. But it's also beautiful to look at, sensual, incredibly well written, and acted. The make up and suit that the amazing Doug Jones wears is a worthy companion to the suit in The Creature from the Black Lagoon. best film I've seen in the theater in ages.

My Dad has expressed interest in seeing this, so I may go back for a second viewing later this week. God knows what he'll think about it (he wanted to see The VVitch expecting a straight drama about the Salem Witch Trials, and exclaimed on the way out, "I didn't think there'd be an actual witch!" ).

It's still my favorite movie of the year. Exceptional filmmaking.

I agree. It's my favorite also. I bought the score as well since my daughter fell in love with the music also. I really hope it wins in that category as well. I'm not usually the guy who buys a film score but certain passages got stuck in my head for days after seeing it.

The one scene along the water's edge where they used Snoop's "Gin and Juice" melted my heart.

But it was an orchestral version of "Gin and Juice". More conductors need to look at that approach. There's a whole Wu Tang catalog out there waiting to be adapted to period piece dramas.

I don't think it's happening, but I want this extremely tender, exquisitely filmed, emotional Oscar Bait of a film about fucking a fishman in his fishdick to win all the Oscars. Loved every moment. Cried a bunch of times. It felt like what if Jeunut didn't part ways with Caro when he made Amelie.

However this is bullshit of the highest degree, Hellboy II is the Guillermo Del Toroiest movie that ever Guillermo Del Toroed.

Saw this for a second time with my Dad(!) last week. It holds up beautifully on a second viewing, but my Dad -- while he admittedly liked it -- definitely had some questions.
