I respect it. Rolling the score is also a perfectly acceptable term. Did you know it's based off mechanical pinball/arcade games, when you maxed out the score reels and they restart at 0?

The Grid [Tron], the Oasis, or the Matrix?

Not the movies. The "locations".

Which VR place is better?

Oasis. Who'd want their online avatar to be some boring office drone instead of, say, Indiana Jones, or Mad Max? Plus, you'd actually be able to unplug when you wanted to.

Read the RPO book for some rather unsavory answers to that.

Video games only became good in the last 15 years and retro gaming is bullshit.

Please, GoldenEye 64, the Tony Hawk quadrilogy, and Rogue Squadron 2 all came out more than 15 years ago, and I'm still waiting for a decent modern game that compares to anything they accomplished.

also, there were no bullshit season passes and loot crates 15+ years ago.

I am conflicted. Most videogames are horseshit.

I appreciate the craft of some old arcade games, but playing them now? Fuck. Like, I loved Dig Dug as a kid, but good luck getting me to sit down and play it for more than 3 minutes.

Though once in a while, some classic grabs my attention - something simplistic like the early arcade game Warlords can be a lot of fun with a friend. And Joust is pretty great. And then there are titles like Out of this World/Another World that I can appreciate the cinematic aesthetic they were going for on 16-bit consoles. I try to play that one every few years.

And titles like Maniac Mansion are charming as hell. Plus you can microwave a hamster.

I read the book, largely because the OB&C enjoyed it. Horribly written geek wish fulfillment. But I can see how you could make a fun movie out of it.

We'll watch the movie soon.

Watched the movie. It was a fun movie made out of horribly written geek wish fulfillment. As predicted.

We were watching it, in part, because my son asked to and we were previewing it. Between the profanity and the Shining sequence (which was fantastic), that's a no-go.

The OB&C was surprised how loosely adapted it was. But I figure a straight adaptation would've sucked.

Not only that, over half the audience would have known exactly what was going to happen, and where is the fun in that?

No, I am glad it wasn't a straight adaptation.

It was a totally fun movie, though.
