My kids have been watching it. Animated TV show that's something like a cross between Northern Exposure and The X-Files. They're nearly finished with the second season, and that's all there is, but the Internet says it comes to an actual conclusion at the end, and they're liking it. I'm usually half-watching, but the bits I've paid attention to have been pretty good.

Pretty sure it was a Disney Channel show. It's a free rental in the kids DVD section of the Grosse Pointe Public Library, if that's any help.

Yeah, library in Grosse Pointe.

That's where Cusack and Aykroyd fought it out, right?

It was Disney's attempt at Adventure Time, and not a bad one (certainly not as dark or fucked up as AT, but close). The creator of the show has signed a multi-series deal with Netflix, hence the conclusion of Gravity Falls on Disney.

There's a show with a similar vibe premiering on Cartoon Network next year, called Infinity Train. You can watch the pilot episode here:

Also Bee & Puppycat, which - as of today - you can watch for free on the Youtubez...(like Adventure Time, however, it deals with more adult subject matter than you might want younglings to be aware of).

Pretty sure that was "Grosse Pointe High School" (which hasn't existed since the late 1960s and was technically located in California, since only one shot of that movie was shot in Michigan).

This show is absolutely spectacular and has my favorite finale of any show animated or otherwise.

Sit down and watch this show. It’s gonna fuck up the next generation in a perfect way.

This show goes hard on the story and you legit have to sit down and make time with it. It’s lovecfraftian in its scope.

Both kids (9 and 5 years old, respectively) have asked that Gravity Falls be added to the thumb drive I keep plugged into the Blu Ray player so that they can watch stuff without switching discs, which I don't entirely trust either to do. (I barely trust the OB&C.)

So this is essentially in the canon with Disney now.

Eric, have you considered getting Plex? It's free, and most Smart TVs and blu-ray players can add the Plex app (it also works with the firestick, chromecast, and Roku). I'll send you an invite to my library if you want to try it out before investing any time in it. The interface is very similar to Netflix, so it's - for all intents and purposes - idiot proof. You can lock access to specific ratings/libraries, so you have complete control over the younglings' viewing habits.

I think this is the first time I'm hearing about it, so no, I haven't thought about it. If it's free, what's the catch?

I think they recently started charging $5 for the phone app (so if you want to watch content on the go, you have to pony up), but it's free on smart devices/web browsers. They offer additional (non-essential) services for an additional fee (like adding DVR functionality). Bear in mind, Plex requires the use of a desktop/laptop (or NAS drive) to "serve" your content to your TV (you can continue to use the machine, Plex just runs in the background) so - in the end - your electricity bill will go up.

Sounds cool enough, but I'm not sure what functionality it'd add that I need. I think we're fine as is.
