So it looks like there won't be any press copies sent out in advance of the first episode's air date. Understandable given what happened last year.

Just watched it tonight. It felt kind of rushed. Like they were trying to squeeze as much as possible into one hour of the season. I would have liked a more relaxed pace, focusing on fewer characters. I did like the Melissandra reveal at the end, and Brienne to the rescue.

If Snow hasn't "Walkerized" by now, I don't think he will.

Best lines of the season, so far?

"And some mutton."

"What?"

"I'm not much of a hunter."

Yes, that was the first real glimpse at what that character is like from the books, which is infinitely better than the wall dressing he usually is on the show. I really wish they hadn't made the decision to minimalize his character, because it would have made the Stannis parts far more entertaining.

First "Damn" scene at less than 8 minutes in:

SPLAT! SCHLORPP. SPLOOJ.

Second "Damn" scene at less than 6 minutes later:

SPLAT.

Lots of people learning that castle walls are very sturdy vs. the human body.

Large humanoids, plus sturdy castle walls, plus skulls, equals quality entertainment.

I'm glad the damn eyes opened, after last week I was worried they were going to draw his 'recovery' out.

P.S. Giants are awesome, more giants, please.

That was nearly a throwaway episode - I guess we need them to "fill the void" but only Snow's "Fuck it, I'm done" scene really moved the story forward, IMHO.

Hopefully this week's will pick the speed back up again.

Yeah, it was an hour of treading water, which is interesting seeing how breakneck the speed of episodes 1 and 2 were.

BIG fucking tease in Bran's vision, ending where it did, for those who've read the books and speculated about what's almost certainly a major revelation in the backstory. And Arya got her eyes back. And Ramsay's got Rickon prisoner, which I would have hoped was a setup except for the wolf beheading.

I think there's a bit more there than "treading water," but I do agree it seemed to be putting pieces in place rather than playing out the game.

I put forth what I believe to be that reveal to the Mrs last night after finally watching that episode, let me know if this is what you are thinking...
Spoiler: show
That Jon Snow is not Ned's son, but actually his sister's son, the result of the Mad King raping her*, making Jon Snow not only a Stark, but also a Targaryen. Ned takes baby Snow back with him and tells everyone he is his bastard to keep him safe from the Baratheons, and whomever else.

*Just found that this is a common theory, but with the Targaryen prince that she was purposefully shacking up with, not the raping from the mad king.

This definitely is not a throwaway episode, Arya getting trained up should have dividends.

Jon's fuck you guys, I'm going home move was a huge, beyond the books, moment, and I have no idea what he has in mind now.

Yeah, the second option there is what I was thinking. Thought of it myself when reading through the books, then went online and found that literally everybody else seems to have thought of the same, to the point where it's pretty much assumed to be so.

Spoiler: show
The idea is that, if the vision had gone further, Bran's dad would have come upon his sister dying after childbirth. Not sure if you've read the books, but there's a bunch of hints in them, in visions and such (at one point somebody sees a blue rose, previously established as representing the sister, growing out of a wall of ice), and Ned thinks before dying about his sister's last words being "Promise me, Ned." Plus there's the misdirection in that Robert remembers Rhaegar, the Mad King's son, as a rapist, but everybody else remembers him as a good guy and the strong implication is that the whole thing was consensual. Also that he may even have married her (Targaryens having a history of taking multiple wives), which would mean that the character whose identity has been defined by his bastardy is, in reality, not only legitimate but the heir to the throne, since he's older than Daenerys.

So, yeah. Big tease.

I also came to the thought myself, probably around the 1st or 2nd season. I listened to all the books on tape between last season and this one, and it was even more clear there. I just came upon the online mentioning of it when I was looking up name spelling today (I don't really follow the blogs and whatever for the show).

The not being raped, but consensual after a marriage makes more sense, and is cleaner, which makes me think George will not go that way, but time will tell.

That is the Daenerys I want. Now, let's be honest, those warriors would have rushed her and she would be horse food, but fuck it, My Khaleesi is back!

When Ramsay got bit? I know I did! The wife was horrified by how gory and bloody the episode was, but I said that Ramsay was such a bastard, he needed a truly horrible death.
