I know I'll probably be the only person posting in here, but at least I can keep all of my film score musings to a single thread. Everyone is allowed to discuss songs used in movies as well. :)

Anyways, John Williams' score to the 1977 John Frankenheimer movie Black Sunday has just been released on CD for the first time (with an unusually large print run of 10,000 copies). :thumbs:

Believe me. I've heard worse podcasts.

The trick is to be knowledgeable about your subject, which you clearly are. That cuts through a lot of bad production and presentation. Personally, I bet you could pull it off.

Having never been a big fan of soundtracks I have recently been sucked into the world of the Indiana Jones trilogy music thanks to playing the LEGO Indiana Jones game on PS3. Thankfully, they didn't just play the familiar theme over and over again. They seem to have used music from each appropriate soundtrack and I have to say, I really want to own all three of them now.

I don't know about Crystal Skull. Not familiar enough with it. The one for Temple of Doom though has been outstanding, especially the parts used to underscore fight scenes.

I'd subscribe to a Monty podcast.

There are a lot of smart, tech-savvy people who visit here and DIMP. I'm sure if you asked nicely, and actually thanked them after the fact, they could help you with a podcast be it recording, editing or general production polish. Or at least teach you to fish, as it were, enough to get you capable of doing it yourself.

I'd do a podcast myself if it weren't for the fact that I have the radio-unfriendliest voice in the history of ever.

I just downloaded the soundtrack to Moon.

Monty, what's your opinion on Clint Mansell? I would kind of figure you would dislike him as you seem to be more wrapped up in orchestral scoring.

I thought you sounded fine on that one soundbite from the TV show you uploaded. You should do the podcast WITH Monty. That would be the best podcast in the history of podcasts.

I know that you didn't ask me, but I'm chiming in anyway since I have literally been listening to Mansell's work from LONG before he composed his first film score. I think he's an incredible technician and when I try to think that this guy came from Pop Will Eat Itself (one of my favorite bands of all time) I am astounded by his growth. That said, I still think my favorite score was his work on Pi, more so than Requiem, more so than The Fountain. When Mansell goes minimal, it's aural brilliance.

I speak Canadian prairies English, which is supposedly one of the most accent-neutral dialects there is. My voice is just weird, kinda deep, yet soft...at least it sounds that way to me when it's recorded. I'd deal with it if that meant I could do a podcast with Monty.

The Fountain was one of my favorite scores of 2006 (and even has become a regular in movie trailers, like for The Mist), and his 007-esque score for Sahara (of all things) was terrific. He's good. :thumbs:

And I like all kinds of film scoring, not just the "hundred-thousand-track John Williams thang" (as Stephen King once put it). Everything from Star Wars orchestral bombast to minimalist synth/chamber work like Mark Snow's X-Files music or certain John Carpenter scores (I like The Fog quite a bit). I'm sure Denny Zeitlin's eccentric score to the 70's Invasion Of The Body Snatchers remake would make most people mutter "The fuck...?", but it's phenominally effective in the movie, taking all of the skewed, noirish camera angles and lighting and pushing the paranoia even further. Granted, more tonal scores work better on CD.

During the 90s, TD had a female member. I have never heard anything that iteration of the band did, because they started royally sucking after Miracle Mile. I'm more of a Thief/Risky Business/The Keep-era TD fan.

They're not actually my favorite band, but I do like them a lot and really enjoy the hell out of their mid-1970s stuff. I've gotten really into krautrock from that era the last two years or so, and have found myself becoming a big fan of Ash Ra Tempel, Cluster, and Neu!, others.

Here's hoping for a sixth Oscar in a few weeks for War Horse (I couldn't find a YouTube clip for Williams' Fiddler On The Roof win, and that was an adaptation/conducting job, anyways).

I actually mainly collected on cassette until...God, 1995? By 96/97 I had switched over entirely to CDs.
