I called my dad this morning, and told him to score me tickets, or he'd never see his granddaughter again.

Sign up at KateBush.com., and you can get an access code that will allow you to order tickets 48 hours before they go on sale to the general public. I had one emailed to me this morning, that's how I knew about the shows.

Oops, looks like you had to sign up prior to 3/1/14 to be eligible for the access code.

I am already signed up, but I'm not sure if you can buy tickets in the US, so I'm making my dad do it in case. Worth a trip to England for this.

Did you get the email? It says nothing about who can buy tickets, just that you can get in on the early buy if you got the email. I need to talk seriously to the wife about this tonight. Jealously alert, she saw Kate in London in 1979, at The Hammersmith Odeon.

Five more minutes until the fan pre-sale starts. I'm registered on the ticket site, so that part is done. Fingers crossed!

So I'm fucking bullshit right now. I had tickets all set on the pre-sale site, but it kept denying my credit cards (I tried three), all with plenty of room for the charge. I have charged that amount of money before internationally without issue. I'm glad I'm saving the shit ton of cash it would cost me to fly there (and for the tickets), but I would have killed to have seen her...

...and I almost did.

So the wife figured out what happened. Apparently the UK ticket site uses 3-D security where you need to go to your card's website, and set up the program to add another layer of security to your card. By the time she did this for her card, the pre-sale was sold out. I may try on Friday for the general public sale, but at this point, I'm thinking that I'll just save the $10K+ I would have spent to go see her.

Yeah. We're in process about whether we want to try again on Friday.

Just curious, but how do you get to $10k for a trip to London?
For 2
Plane Tickets = $1100 - $1400
Concert Tickets (using current exchange rates) = $164 - $496
Hotel (assuming 2 nights) = $154 - $862
Food (I assume you will be eating well) = $450 - $900
Taxi Service = $180 - $360

High range is $4,018, but, of course, the concert T's could be around $3k each.

I've looked into plane tickets they are $1100 per person

$2200

concert tix = $550

$2750

Hotel - London hotels cost $300-400 per night. I'm not going to London for only 2 nights, so 6 nights x $300 = $1800

$4550

Food = $500-1000/day x 6 days = $3000

$7550

Sundries, somewhere around $2500 = about $10K.

OK, I looked at final ticket prices and those Taxes & Carrier Surcharges sure do add up, so ya, $2200 for 2 is about as good as you can get with a reputable airline.

The hotel is another thing though. There are decent hotels in London for $77 a night. Well rated hotels for 6 nights around the concert time frame range from $1050 and up.

You spend a lot on food, but I know that's your thing.

If you are willing to stay someplace a little less than Buckingham Palace you could save about $3500 there. (The Saba Hotel is about an 11 minute walk from the venue and would be around $1050 USD, and there is even a very nice looking Bed & Breakfast within a minute walk around the same price, that's where I would stay, and it's almost next door to a very highly rated vegetarian restaurant 'The Gate')).

Why do I care? No fucking idea.

Nor do I, but thanks for doing some leg work for me! I definitely don't mind staying at a more downscale place, and even OK food is expensive in the UK (plus everything you see is 1.7 x the price in dollars). I'll look into the places you suggested if I get tickets tomorrow.

Plane ticket prices are significantly cheaper after August (and certainly closer to October). If you can score tickets to the later dates, you'll save a lot of money (which is what I'm attempting to do).

I can't get the time off for the beginning of the run anyway, so I'm looking at one of the last 2 weeks of Sept.

The only reason we can go to London in June is because we're doing a house swap. No cost, but you gotta be comfortable with someone using your house while you use theirs. You have time to arrange something like that if you wish.

I'm glad you're OK with that. Me? Not so much. Plus, I'm sure there's a ton more people who want to swap a house in London with one on Cape Cod in June vs those who want an apartment in Boston in September!

So I'm trying this again. I've called my credit card company and cleared the charge with them in advance. Hopefully this works. 14 min until I know for sure. Fingers crossed.

I've been a fan since the early 80's. She hasn't played a full live show since 1979. Plus, my wife lived near London in the late 70's, and she's wanted to take me to London since we met. She actually saw Kate at the same place we're seeing her in 1979! Here's her best known song.

I really do love being a parent and wouldn't trade it for the world, Shoe Jr. is 90% of the reason why my adulthood turned out well instead of being a foray into shitheadhood and he's pretty much the best thing there is, however, your ability to do things like this is envious. So that's cool.

The nice thing about becoming a dad early, I suppose, is that in a few years I'll be able to engage in similar spur of the moment endeavors and can do so without worry or concern.

If I can get the time off from work, that is.

Got an email today that my tickets were in the mail! I don't think that this is all going to compute until I have them in my hand, but fuck, I've never been that excited to read (and re-read) an email in my life.

I have no idea who this chick is. She used to be pretty hot, but she isn't any more, so I am not interested. But, wow man, $500-1000 a day on food! That is impressive.

The problem is that it's the UK. Today's exchange rate is $1.60 to the pound. So if something costs ten pounds, it's $16! Things get very expensive very quickly there.

So, in the midst of all the bad news last week, I got some fantastic news that my row E tickets, which I thought were in the 5th row, are now in the first row, as they've removed rows A-D for extra staging. I read in an online Kate Bush forum that you can almost touch her!
