Damn if this isn't an incredible value.

I tried Apple's service earlier this year, but the app didn't play nicely with my Android phone. The library was awesome, but the constant crashes and audio drops killed the experience. A little while later, Google Music offered something ridiculous like 5-months free, which includes access to their premium youtube service (no ads), after that it's $10 a month.

I'm pleased with the library - new releases appear the day of the physical release - right now I'm listening to Bon Iver's album which was released today. You can also upload your personal music collection (50,000) tracks to take your collection on the go.

For the cost of 1 new album a month, it's a legit awesome service. If I was an iPhone user, I wouldn't hesitate to endorse Apple's service either.

The only caveat is that streaming doesn't sound as nice on a decent home stereo - I can't tell if there's some level of normalization going on, or it's just a byproduct of compressed bitrate (different masters even?). On a portable player, I'm not going to notice or mind, but on the stereo, I miss lossless audio.

Fine.

Though the catalog goes deep. I just found my business' IT manager's album from 2005 on here.

Amazon's streaming service is $7.99 month, or only $3.99 if you stream to a single Echo. That's pretty competitive, but I discover most of my new music from Bandcamp - and that is completely free to stream.

I use Google Music myself. Being able to be upload and integrate my own library is pretty cool (although I haven't gotten around to uploading it yet.) I still use Plex mostly for streaming my own library but streaming from there is unreliable since most of my collection is lossless (and the computer that it's hosted on needs to be replaced pretty badly).
