I'm looking to replace my current old stereo with an new system I would prefer a set or an all in one. It needs to play both vinyl and cd's. I would like bluetooth on it but it's not a must. My budget is $200-$300, does anyone have any recommendations.

Why go half way?

I have no idea if this is any good, I just thought it was funny.

This thread made me realize that despite all the music I listen to, I no longer own a stereo and probably never will again.

Okay, not strictly true. The stereo I had over 16 years ago is in the house, sitting on the floor next to the TV stand, serving as a stand for some potted plants. I'm not even sure it still works. Don't think it's hooked up.

I have some stereo components -- two take decks, a turntable -- but they've been in the attic since we moved in.

My PC has been my stereo since we moved into this house in 2004, and I sometimes use whatever video game system I have at the moment as one, too, run through the home theater (which itself is old but still gets the job done).

We've got something like this, and it used to be in our living room. I'd play CDs on it occasionally. It's currently been moved to my son's room, as he's been taking some books on CD out of the library.

I'm actually kind of interested in what might be recommended, if anybody actually manages to make a recommendation. I wouldn't mind having a dedicated stereo again.

We also use a boom box. The record player part is a tid bit odd, but I am sure you could hook one up to auxiliary.

Unless you have the $12,000 for Chris' suggestion.

Well, that $12k player lacks a pre-amp, so hooking it up to a regular boombox via the aux input would result in a very annoyed listener. Here's an affordable solution: http://a.co/0LXCyLO

This is what I'm currently using to listen to records, I inherited it from my grandparents.

It's an RCA Beaucaire VLT74.

Have you considered upgrading to a CD player?

I don't trust those new fangled things, and that's and 8 track player to the left in the second picture (it still works).

I'm not sure that thing is capable of using all 8 tracks! Maybe with a TK-421 module upgrade, you might be able to squeak 2 or 3 more quads per channel out of that bad boy.

Isn't CD technology like 30+ years old?

:noclue:

First working prototype was in 1976 - so, 40+ years.

I'm going to thread shit, but like, why not just copy your CDs and Vinyl to your harddrive and play them from a dedicated digital player?

I don't think I've "listened" off a CD since 2002 or 2003 - all have been copied digitally straight away. Handling discs is so 40 years ago!

I did, I have a 1TB portable full of my music but I like listening to vinyl and buying vinyl. I don't have a lot but I enjoy it.

Real CDs and books or GTFO.

I'm really not sure that any all in one system is going to give you a decent turntable. Stay away from the Crossley's as they have fixed needles which are not replaceable. Here's an interesting article I found listing good turntable options.

Thanks I'll take a look at. I've come to the realization that I may just have to buy a high end turntable and receiver along with some good speakers for any kind of descent sound. This will seriously bump up my budget so I may have to wait a bit longer to do it.

Since I'm still working out an audio issue on my new PC, I actually had to avail myself of my "home theater" the other day to listen to music in the house.

I kind of liked it. Music from the surround sounded great and really filled up the room.

It's those extra 3 or 4 quads per channel, man. The highest quality fidelity.

Having 512 GB storage between two MicroSD cards is better than carrying around 1400 albums in my pocket.

I can't listen to music unless it has the right number of quads. You know that.

Stop complaining and just get the card. I've licked a man's taint in an alleyway in Dallas for less.

(A It was for a half chicken parm and a Dr Pepper, for anyone wondering.)

(I love Dr Pepper)

Joke was on him, I didn't even want that Dr. Pepper.

And Quads are usually not enough for me. I've moved onto to Octaves, because they're like twice as much better.
