(Retitled The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary for American printings.)

Just finished this. It's essentially a history of the contributions of W.C. Minor to the Oxford English Dictionary, and how he came to contribute. He was an insane murderer who made his contributions (the OED relied on volunteers, and he was possibly the most prolific) from a British asylum. I read it because I knew of his existence because he was a distant relative of the OB&C and I happened to mention him to my son, who asked how they were related. (He would be my son's sixth cousin six times removed, which is to say they're barely related at all.)

Damn, though. Interesting book (and that from someone who rarely reads non-fiction), and a quick read. A quirky corner to the compilation of the most comprehensive English dictionary ever, and one that gives a lot of insight to how it came to be. Anybody interested in the language should give it a read. I think Shoe in particular would probably enjoy it.

You're welcome! I think Wrightson is one of the five best contemporary pen and ink artists. His work for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is nothing short of spectacular.
This is a drawing not good enough for the book. The detail in this, and every other drawing in the book is stunning.

Salem's Lot is one of King's best...I should re-read that again, considering I watched the miniseries again last October.

I just finished it yesterday.

The time honored question of, "If you had a time machine, would you kill Hitler?" may get another option, "If you had a time machine, would you kill Hitler or Trump?"

Looks like we are not alone...

George Orwell's '1984' hits bestseller list again
This is actually a little hopeful.

In a silver-lining sort of way. All things considered, I'd think it more hopeful if nobody was reading 1984 and you were bitching about Clinton having won. And I'm pretty certain you'd agree.

You still don't get it. Clinton is one of them, but with the support of Democrats, the supposed high ground people, who looked the other way when one of theirs rigged the primaries. Trump is a quicker death, but Clinton puts on a different face for the proletariat, uses them to make the rich richer, keep up the perpetual war. At least with Trump more people are seeing it.

Just to be clear, yes, I would have rather had Hillary than Trump, but Hillary is not much better. We would still be getting fucked over and squeezed with Hillary, it just would have been more subtle and there may have been a few good things to go along with it.

As I said long ago, Trump wants to be a dictator and is now going forward with that plan, and the media is soaking it up. The big stories are Trump's response to the inauguration crowds, and now that the EPA is getting destroyed and replaced with the EDA (Environmental Destruction Agency) or as he will call it, The Ministry of Environmental Protection and we will be forced to call MiniEP, which his followers love, so it is allowed to be in the news for a day, now something else will come out so people stop talking about it.

Once, since I could vote, I thought I was voting for a good President. But Obama just turned out to be mostly okay.

Hillary would have been flawed. I think it very deluded to rank her near Trump.

I think it is deluded to not.

Look at her actions since the election, still looking out for herself.

Do you have to keep doing that? Yes, Trump is bad, so is Hillary, not as bad, but bad. She would have worked things differently, but we would have been worse off afterward too.

Even if you were right (and you're exaggerating how bad she was), those were the only two realistic choices. There'll be two realistic choices next time. I hope we don't, again, have so many voters standing on principle that we get stuck with the worst one.

And I hope everyone stands on principle and we get the best one.

But, again, 3rd party didn't give us Trump, stop pushing the #alternatefacts that they did.
