Just re-read the Harry Potter series, mostly because my son was reading them. The occasional bedtime chapter I read to him (while he or my wife read a bunch in between) convinced me to read through them again. Still fun.

I was surprised how much (minor) profanity there was in the last book, though. He's on the second-to-last. Unsurprisingly, 41-year-olds read faster than 8-year-olds and I lapped him. When he gets to that last book, I'm going to have to censor some of the time when I'm reading parts to him.

Well, the intention of the books as they were released was that an eleven-year-old reading the first book would be pushing twenty by the time the last one was published...they were never intended to be read straight though at the same age. Same thing with the movies. That last one with a PG rating was the third, and all of the ones that followed had increasing levels of violence, peril and overall mature themes. That's always the awkward thing when a series of books or movies intended to be consumed over a long period of time finally finishes up, and future generations can and will binge-read/watch them all in a greatly compacted time frame.

I read both of these sitting on a lounge chair beside a pool while my son was at swim team practice. There cannot be a less appropriate match of location and reading material.
