I thought I'd start with something familiar to help me get used to the Playstation controller.

That looked like a fun trip. Japan is my "Well, if I see cheap airfare" destination because I don't think I could make it happen otherwise. It was one of the few places I wanted to visit as a teen.

It dropped to $30 on Amazon, so I snagged it. It starts pretty slow and frankly kind of bad, making me think all the online chatter may have actually been right and the game was a dud, but nope. It was just whiny shitheads yet again. (I'm quickly learning to ignore anything that comes out of the wider "online video game community.") Once you get past the prologue and the game opens up, it's actually pretty fantastic, familiar in many ways yet taking its own approach:

It feels like a direct-to-DVD sequel. I'm still compulsively playing it because the actual gameplay is decent (and they finally made a vehicle that wasn't the worst), but I find myself tuning out during long speeches.

It's also pretty funny seeing all of these DEEP CHOICES being used as set-ups to be paid off in sequels now that the series is on indefinite hiatus.

Also Bioware at this point should know better than to cut/downplay any of the hot, sweaty, man-on-man gay shit.

I've been playing this and I don't know if I've ever seen a more beautiful game.

I enjoy playing ME:A just to try to push the choices to point where everyone hates my character (including me).

I finished Mass Effect Andromeda over the weekend and by the end of it, I ended up liking four characters: Peebee, Drak, Gil, the Nomad and that's it.

I spent the first 30 minutes playing through some of the tutorials.

With an extreme amount of due diligence I was able to "breeze" through the docking and flying tutorials.

The basic combat one? Not so much.

I am able to easily kill the first ship you're tasked to kill, but the second one gets me every time - usually because it drops my shields after maybe 3 or 4 hits on me. After about half a dozen attempts, I said fuck it and went into the game itself.

It is a very complicated game and although I have had some helpful advice from various sources, I am still somewhat clueless and lost. I nearly died a billion times and after mistakenly leaving the initial starting port, I had to return and that involved probably an hour of smashing into the place from all sorts of interesting angles and vectors.

I faintly recall some sort of warnings being given over my ship's communication: "Destroying space port property is not..." something or other, and "blocking unassigned landing pads will be deemed..." something.

Despite all that mucking about, I was "successful" in actually traveling to another system with some water that I bought, transported, and traded (according to one advisor, I used a website that gave a list of trade items with the highest ROI if you put where you are leaving and where you are going).

I actually really liked it and have a LONG way to go to actually know what the fuck I am doing.

After 3.5 hours of play:

:hole1: :hole1: :hole1: :hole1: :nohole:

Still playing Andromeda. Still not getting what all the backlash was all about. No, the characters are not as interesting or likable as the original trilogy, but it's still solid as hell.

Just got to the ice planet.

Try to get the mod on the Nomad that allows you to turn the "traction control" off (or whatever the hell they call it).

This will give you tons more fun whipping around and doing donuts.

I have enjoyed the game very much.

Backlash is from everyone that voted Trump into the WH. Go figure.

And the ME:A bad news keeps piling up:

MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA's DLC RUMORED TO HAVE BEEN CANCELLED

It really has been the most shit upon game of at least the last decade that I can recall.

Not even The Division gathered this much unwarranted (IMHO) sewage taste.

That would be No Man's Sky.

Although that game deserved all the hate it got.

I should have been more clear: Both assertions were with the caveat that the hate was unwarranted.

My apologies for not being clear.

No Man's Sky is getting better, but I didn't have crazy expectations going in, I just wanted a chill game where I zoomed around the galaxy while smoking hella weed, so I thought it was cool.

PSN's got a solid sale going on right now. Picked up the GOTY edition of Shadows of Mordor for $6, don't even have PS+.

I've been playing Playerunknown's Battlegrounds for the last few weeks, and it's one hell of an adrenaline rush. I play solo, so it's ridiculously hard when going up against team players. I don't think it's on consoles (yet), but definitely worth the admission price (assuming you like Battle Royale-type survival games).

Guys if any of you were on the fence due to conflicting opinion, Mass Effect Andromeda is now $20 on Amazon.

Damn! I got it when it came down to $30.

Amazing how it's dropped so much in such a short period of time. And it's a great game! Genuinely fantastic, far better than I expected. The further I get into it, the more I like it.

I really liked it and I'm going to pick up the sequel when it comes down in price some.

I BEAT Mass Effect: Andromeda

and let me tell you, fuck the reviews. That game was awesome. It was buggy and at times lacked polish, but if you like the Mass Effect universe and would like a more open, exploration-focused version of it, you'll love it.

Last night I started playing Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind

Got the game but didn't think I was ready to play yet, since I don't have Xbox Gold. They had a free Gold weekend, though, so I tried it out.

Was immediately sucked in. I was back in Morrowind!

Uh-oh.
