Here, too...

Everyone keep their boners under control.

M I D N I G H T.

I'm hoping my plan for a character works out. It made sense to me that if Michael Jackson were to die in our world and be reborn in Skyrim, he would be a whimsically enchanted archer with a thirst for cleric blood. An "EEHH-HEEEEE" shout capable of clearing an entire field of guards.

Oh, it's on.

Mine SHOULD get here tomorrow.

They added a cool feature: endless quests. After you finish, say, the assassin's guild storyline, you can keep going back to the guild and it will generate new assassination quests for you. Thieves guild, same thing. Even after you finish the storyline you can keep getting "go steal these jewels" jobs.

Cool.

New Elder Scrolls is always something to celebrate. I am about to start losing a LOT of sleep.

Just started watching Dexter, too ... but now I won't be.

Ugh, that IGN review shows exactly why I can't play this on a console...all that scrolling and hunting for things would drive me mad...

anyway, the PC torrent is up this morning - tempting, but I might just wait to pick it up over the weekend.

I always give Bethesda my money.

I probably put 170+ hours into Morrowind.

A combined 160 hours into Oblivion.

Fallout 3 stole about 90 hours of my life.

Played Daggerfall, too, but it's too long ago to remember how much I played it.

Bang for your freakin' buck.

I'm afraid to play this because it's like having a giant delete key on my free time.

Plus I'm kind of sick of my compulsive nature forcing me to look inside every crate for magic rings and Skooma, only to find a few gold pieces and a pot.

Just read two reviews (sort of which I didn't, as they had minor exploration/world event spoilers) and according to them, there is an absurd amount to do. One guy spent hours just hunting pelts and making gear. Another guy played over 30 hours and hadn't even done a single main story mission, or mage guild mission, or fighter's guild mission, or assassin's guild mission.

My life is ruined.

I hate you all.

Steam/Amazon overnight for PC?

Or Xbox 360?

Steam all the way. There's already an update to fix release bugs...

And I just read that the PC version is just a port of the Xbox/PS3 version (just with better textures)...that's pretty common these days, but it shouldn't be for a title like this.

If you've got the PC for it, Steam. These games end up having loads of great mods. Graphics will be better, too.

I went with Xbox. I can't play game sat my desk anymore. I like the couch, at night. I'll probably get a PC version as well to mess with mods later, but first playthrough will be Xbox.

Alright, downloading from Steam AS WE SPEAK.

Goodbye goals, dreams, and aspirations.

I will probably still play this with the 360 controller.

With an entirely new engine written for the game and tossing away Gamebryo, there's a good chance that the action doesn't suck in the game.

But man, I hataatatatatatewrtiawrgianfgiasrdted it in Oblivion so, so much. So very much.

God this game looks amazing though.

So I can have it now. Impulse buying. Plus I've been working overtime which lets me justify many things.

I pre-ordered a while ago and paid by trading in other games to Amazon. You type in your trades, print out a free shipping slip, mail them in, and Amazon credits your account.

I'm hoping I can get the slow motion thing so putting arrows through faces will be easier.

If you like open world games with a vast amount of territory -- expect a landmass larger than, say, Fallout 3, plus over 150 dungeons -- and multiple storylines to follow, good character customization, freeform play, and a fantasy setting, Skyrim is a no-brainer. You can be a stealthy assassin who slits throats, a brawny Viking-type warrior, a spell-tossing mage, a woods-going archer, or a creative combo of any of them.

I know you liked Fallout 3. This has elements of that and is made by the same people. Big world, main story you can ignore if you want, side stories to pursue (far more than F3), etc.

However, if fantasy settings aren't your thing, this may not be for you. It's all orcs and dragons and wizards and all that. Very much steeped in fantasy tropes.

1. Will the interface be familiar to me from Fallout 3?

2. Video's talking about scrolling through lots of menus. What's that all about?

Basically, I'm just waiting for them to throw Fallout 4 onto this game engine.

Then you will never see me again.

I've been playing this for the past few hours

(had to do some digital trickery to get Steam to unlock this)

It's the game you'd expect it to be.

As far as gameplay? Somewhat, yes. Plays in the first person (though you can do third), controls, the same, etc. No VATS pausing, though. It's just straight up action. From what I understand, they knicked a few tricks from Bioshock, too.

Inventory, magic, skills, level, maps, quests, finished quests, etc etc etc. It'll have a lot of menus.

I'm not speaking for Eric, but it still seems quite natural to call you video. Sorry!

CK - no idea - but you can pull up the console with the ` button and click a character, type "sexchange" and hit enter - and their sex changes!
