Hey, Tech, do you get to be one of the lucky ones there?

Best Buy Midnight opening for PS4 release.

On a side note, what's with Sony releasing a PS3 with a 12GB (yes, twelve) SSD drive? Who is buying that?

People that use it as a media server next to their TV.

It's a bit pricey for a media server/blu-ray player these days...At $149 it might start to make sense...

Didn't say it was a good/smart choice, just a reason I could think of.

P.S. I picked this up for the bedroom to go along with the rest of the network/system I'm putting together (didn't have a player or networked device in the bedroom yet).

Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Integrated Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player

Works very well.

Price drop on the Vita and memory cards, you should get one.

(You probably shouldn't get one)

(I do really love mine, though)

I'm gonna wait for my tax return come February and by then with PS+ I'll have a pile of free games sitting on my account that I'll be able to download off the bat.

I waited about a year before I bought a PS3 (and I'm still running that same PS3, many years later, so I might be better off buying a discounted slim PS3 soon).

I won't even start looking at the PS4 until next Xmas, or whenever Gran Turismo 7 is announced. Or whenever they start touting its 4k movie playback capabilities.

Earliest I'll be looking at next gen consoles is when the first major Bethesda game comes out. Right now, I'm content with what I have. Still have a HUGE backlog of games to play as it is. No need to upgrade yet.

Like CK, I waited to buy my PS3 for a year and it's still working. Unless it craps out unexpectedly, I'll be waiting until 2014 to buy a new console.

I want a Blu-Ray player, so I could get a console for that. But at this point, I think I'm strictly going to PC game. I will always have a PC and I'll always keep my PC running. If a console breaks, screw that, I'm not buying another.

Yeh, I'm probably going to get one tomorrow.

This is probably a bad decision.

Are there any decent games out for it? Serious question.

I'm still a long way away from this shit. Not a single "I've GOT to have that" game out for the new systems yet.

I'm grabbing it tomorrow. Mainly because I never understand the bank having two separate columns for posted funds and available funds. This is the first time I've bought a system within a year of release since the N64 fucked me.

I have 4 or 5 games already banked thanks to PS+ and crossbuy stuff, but I was thinking of picking up AC4 anyway.

How did the N64 fuck you? Shadows of the Empire, Mario 64, Wave Race and that Tron-like racing game (I'm pretty sure those were all launch titles), kept me busy until GoldenEye came out.

I bought a Dreamcast when it came out. No memory card for two weeks, though, since nobody had them in stock. I must have played the opening cutscene to Sonic Adventure a thousand times. I still hate that game.

I could not stand the shift from 2D to 3D (to the point where I'm still kind of iffy on FPS games) at the time, combined with being poor enough to never afford any games past Mario 64 and the endless stream of cancelled games/system add-ons meant the system sat collecting dust forever.

Plus at the point the only genre I would really play were Square JRPGs, so the N64 reeaaaaaaaaally wasn't the system for me.

What I'm trying to say is after Earthbound 64, Nintendo was dead to me.

Ah, yeah - the N64 was my first console purchase (my wife had a Genesis and SNES), and I bought it specifically for the 3D. I first discovered Mario 64 in a Boston cyber cafe. I was incredibly drunk, and spent an hour walking Mario into that big bullet dog thing in the first level. Came home a few days later and went to Toys R Us to figure out what the game was all about (I had never played any Mario game, aside from the original early 80s arcade game).

I bought the Dreamcast about 2 weeks before it was declared dead (knowing full well that it was probably going to happen). I just had to have the best version of Soul Reaver available and that was on the Dreamcast. That was the game that got me back into gaming after a long layoff.

And then I discovered Soul Caliber.

The fact that you could bootleg 99% of the Dreamcast's catalog without modding it was the reason why I clung onto the system for years and years after the fact.

Yeah, the Dreamcast was a great console. The last game I bought for it (probably right before the GameCube came out) was a weird Star Wars themed arena battle game (you could set up a fight between an AT-ST and a Wampa, for instance, and go to town).

The Dreamcast is STILL a great console. I regret selling mine last year. Emulation was super easy on it, it was a snap to find games online, and I still have fond memories of playing Unreal Tournament on it.

House Of The Dead + light guns was always a blast at parties. That console definitely had a great catalog of games.

SO many good games. Soul Caliber was the only fighting game I ever loved. Crazy Taxi was a BLAST. Seaman was strange and bizarre and unique. Shenmue is legend. Resident Evil: Code Veronica was the best in the series up until that point. Jet Grind Radio. So many awesome games.

I went to the store and asked if they had PS4s in stock, and a guy from the opposite side of the room shouts YEAH, WE HAVE THREE TO SELL.

I buy it, and in the middle of buying it a bunch of other guys walked through the door. I finish the transaction, look back, those guys are now buying the other two systems.

Good to see that system updates are still intolerably long.

House of the Dead 2 was pretty much a daily thing for me on that console. Light gun games need to make a serious comeback.

I hear that first one is a doozy. After that I hope it shouldn't be too bad. They're supposed to download in the background and then automatically update overnight from what I've heard.

Automatic Updates might be a PS+ exclusive thing like they are for PS3, but it doesn't matter much, I'm paid up on PS+ until, like, 2016.

Also: after decades of regular console gaming, 60FPS is really offputting and fucking weird to my eye.

After playing various games for 9 hours straight I have to say

Goddamn, I can't wait to see Watchdogs in action.

I just dipped my toe into the available TWITCH streams that's available on the PS4. 40% of them have a A GIRL PLAYS... headline and it's creepin' me out.

Jesus CHRIST, the streaming to Vita option is no fucking joke. I'm 11 miles away from home just hanging out at work doing laundry, playing Assassins Creed 4.
