Watching some and watched the entire opening ceremony. The synchronized drones were cool and all, but the real mind-blower was the unified entrance for Korea.

Later, finding out Pence and his shithole wife attended and refused to stand for their host country entering the games.... Typical fucktard USA.

But, for me, I've come to realize something very sad and that is, I really don't want our athletes to win that much because I really don't want to hear the BS from the POTUS if they do well.

During the luge I could hear them chanting "USA! USA! USA!"

Normally not a big deal, but the chant has become one of the Nazis.

These Winter Olympics are a sad thing. And that sucks. Not always, but just when I stop to think about everything happening here in this country.

I disagree. We're a little Olympics obsessed in our house, and we're especially fans of the Winter Games. While I agree with all the points you make about POTUS and VPOTUS, I don't want to take this away from our athletes. Also, I think our athletes are doing a good job of keeping the politics out of it.

Look at Adam Rippon, the openly gay figure skater for us. The guy has every reason to hate on Pence and his stance of gay rights. Pence even fucked with him via Twitter (reaching out to meet him, then after Rippon refused the request, he denied trying to arrange a meeting in an effort to make Rippon look unbalanced). Rippon told NBC that he didn't want to talk about the issue and it really needed to be about the games and the US Team. Then he proceeded to go out and skate his ASS off yesterday and help secure us a bronze in the Team Skate competition.

You look at the snowboarders like Red Gerard who's 17 years old and fucking NAILED his run in Slopestyle. I'd never want to root against that. He's a kid, for crying out loud. Did you hear his reaction when he won the gold? He literally said, "What the fuck?" and they didn't have a chance to bleep it.

It's not about politics and it's not about Trump and most of these athletes are going to give him the finger instead of meeting with him anyway. He'll blowhard and spin it however he wants but he does that with everything. It's not about him. It's about them and I am rooting hard for Team USA, just because I love the stories of these athletes and how hard they've worked for it, which is way harder than Trump ever worked for anything in his life.

I wish I could put all the bullshit happening here in the U.S.A. under Trump so far off to the side, but I can't.

It really sucks, because I did enjoy the Olympics before all this Trump crap.

Definitely not taking away from Red Gerard's win or Adam Rippon's classic interview where he said he felt like asking someone for a drink and some Xanax. Ha! That was great.

And I am enjoying all of that.

I was pulling for the Norwegians to sweep that cross-country skiing event (and they did).

I watched the skaters and cringed at every fall and was openly thrilled at each completed spin or successful maneuver.

I don't know.

Anything national these days seems too close to Trump's demand for applause at the threat of treason charges.

And I was the guy that pledged his life for our nation's Constitution.

Now nationalism is too close to Trumpism for me.

Just sucks fucking ass.

And I definitely support our athletes.

No, I understand completely. I was just giving my side of it, but while I hate everything about this administration, I can still put it away for the games.

Speaking of the Norwegians, did you see that fucking comeback by Hegstad Krueger? He falls right after the start, gets passed by literally everyone and then over the course of 18 miles, passes all 68 racers to take the gold. Un-fucking-believable.

That was amaze-balls. I loved it. I was trying to get Karen's attention and then we both were cheering at the TV.

Go Viking dudes!

I watched quite a bit of that ski race with Krueger. Those other, what 67 dudes?, will be seeing a different Krueger in their nightmares on Tordenskjolds gate.

I went googling Norwegian street names for a lame Freddie Krueger joke.

Holy shit! Did you see the half-pipe competitions last night?

Chloe Kim was fantastic. Spoilers because some people are DVR'ing this shit.

Spoiler: show
That she won the gold with the score from her first run is one thing but then to lay down a 98 on her final run just for the hell of it was awesome.

But then the qualifier for the mens' competition blew me away.

Spoiler: show
Shaun White puts up a 93 on his first run and everyone's impressed and saying how great he is.

Then Hirano from Japan throws down a 95 on his second run and people lose their shit.

Then Scotty James from Australia puts up a 96 on his second run and again, everyone's blown away.

Then White comes back out and posts a 98 on his final run to take back the top spot.

The top five spots are all in the 90's and any one of those guys have a legitimate shot at the gold tonight. It's going to be an amazing competition!

Well that explains the results of my Google search.

I also read up on some famous royal Norwegian naval military dude with the same name.

I was like, "WTF is this all about? I must know. Do not stop until you figure it all out. Ah fuck, just ask. It's been 20 minutes of you reading and translating Norwegian pages."

I really like that the stoner sport (and women) are where we are shining the most, currently.

People need to see this stuff.

I've snowboarded a few times before and while I like it better than skiing, it's seriously tough for me to pick up. I'm amazed when I see these people do what they do.

The last time I went snowboarding, I fell face-first so hard that I heard vertebre in my neck and back pop like I was popping my knuckles. That was on an intermediate slope and all I was trying to do was go down. I wasn't doing jumps or flips or anything. Seeing the falls some of these people take and then walk away from is insane.

Ya, snowboarding took me a full day to pick up, and at least one cracked rib, but once it is gotten down it is not forgotten.

The last time we went snowboarding, my wife broke her tailbone and that has caused a serious decrease in snowboarding in my life. I would hope that it would come back quickly but who knows?

In other news, Shaun White...

Jesus, does that guy go OFF when under pressure. I was actually kind of pulling for the Japanese guy. He's only 19 though, so he'll be up on the podium plenty of times.

The wipe out was really bad for that one dude. Was glad to see him sitting up so at least he isn't paralyzed above the waist.

I hate that every time I find someone to cheer on like Shaun White, they get a fucking checkered past of sexual assaults and allegations against them.

:(

Yeah, I know. I read about that yesterday. I'm torn about it to be honest. First, I do believe he did it. As I understand it though, he was sending pornographic pictures and shared 2 girls, 1 cup with her. She was in his band and what I heard was that he didn't just send those things to her. He sent them to other band members as well.

He was in a position of power and shouldn't have done that. At the same time, it was his rock band and she was the bass player. If we'd had text messaging back when I was in bands, I'd have been sent all kinds of heinous stuff because that's the atmosphere that arises between people when they spend a shit ton of time together in their twenties.

So, is he a dick? Probably. The snowboarding community doesn't really like him either because he's more about self-promotion than lifting up the community itself.

Is he a rapist? No. Everything I read about it maintained that he didn't sexually pursue her. He made inappropriate remarks about her and her boyfriend and sent text messages with porn in them. Also, he was a guy in his twenties hanging out with members of his band.

I know I'm supposed to be morally outraged about this, but I'm not. I think he was dumb. He did something stupid and then he settled out of court. End of story.

Anyone here see the Snowboard Cross qualifiers last night? I'm trying to figure out whether that sport influenced the original SSX video game or the game influenced the real life sport. It's so much fun to watch these people race and so frustrating to see one person falling take out everyone else.

Did anyone here see this thing where the 26th ranked skier, Ester Ledecka, won the Super G? Her primary sport is snowboarding and she'd only ever competed in 19 Super-G tournaments. The only reason she entered was so she could be the first female athlete to compete in both skiing and snowboarding events.

She was the last skier to go and while she was making her run, they were talking about the other person who had just taken the lead. No one saw it coming.

Pretty awesome.

That was awesome. I always root for the people coming from bizarre circumstances.

We liked the women's long distance win for USA earlier tonight. Crazy strong finish.

The one thing we were curious about is that all the 2-person bobsled events seem to ignore the pushing/anchor person and only name the pilot. Why is that? I mean it seems rude since it seems like a team effort. If you have any information that would be great.

Wish I could stay up to watch the women's hockey for USA vs Canada, but early work as per always.

PS - Some very bad skiing crashes on the half pipe tonight for the guys, but the USA did well in the end. Another stoner sport does well.

This bothered me and my wife as well, especially as I'm friends with Aja Evans' aunt (they came in fifth).
