Congrats, Cary, hopefully you get credit for Kindle Unlimited Downloads.
I do. With the KU option, they actually track how many pages were read by KU subscribers and my credit is based on that. It's weird. Like streaming a movie on Netflix or something.
Cool, downloaded it last night, and started reading. 21% of the way through (according to Kindle), Thanksgiving with Ruth. I really like it so far. I let my son read the first section after I did, he approves and has asked me about and scary parts later on.
Thanks! I look forward to hearing what you think of the rest.
I'm part of a writer's group called OC Fictionaires and everyone in it is a published author and all but one of them besides myself write fiction for a living. The large majority of them write either romance, mystery or fantasy. There's only one other writer (Lisanne Harrington) in the bunch who writes horror. Each meeting, three people read something they're working on and the others give feedback.
So about two years ago, I read that first chapter to the group and got a lot of positive feedback on it. After going around the room it came back to me and I explained that it was part of a horror novel and someone suggested that next time around, I bring in one of the chapters that was scary.
So I did. I read a chapter from later in the book that is very graphic. That's when I saw everyone but Lisanne get uncomfortable. The best was watching one of the guys who writes fantasy. He's a Bronie and has written a ton of short stories and novels all aimed at the YA crowd and all about friendship and magic. He seemed honestly offended.
Lisanne and I still laugh about how the mood in the room changed.
