Not a Fest film but a contender that fell short - we watched Willow Creek on Saturday night. I liked it well enough and the final act is fun, but it's definitely not Goldwaith's best. There's something missing and it's hard to put my finger on exactly what. Still, it would have been fun to show if only to hear Monty complain about motion-sickness from the erratic camera movements.

I had such high hopes for this. Bought it blind, fully intending to show it this year, but your observations on it are spot on. I did think listening to Monty bitch about the shaky cam would provide a modicum of entertainment, though not enough to warrant showing it. A huge step down in quality for Bob from God Bless America.

Do you ever show anthology films? I just watched ABCs Of Death 2 over the weekend, and it was a step-up from the first one. Even the bad ones would be fun to watch with a group.

Shakey-cam doesn't bother me so much if the movie is shot in a deliberate "found footage" style, but when it's a "real movie" and the camera is jittering all over the place, it pisses me off. Buy a fucking tripod, already.

Even though it's found footage, this would have gotten to you. There were moments in the first half of the film where it got to me and I don't normally get motion sickness and never from watching a film.

Even so, a lot was said about this 20 minute single take scene in the tent. It's a damn fine scene and the final 10 minutes are quality 'lost and scared in the woods' stuff. It even leaves you with some questions about what exactly is happening out there, but it's like there's no Act II or something. At only an hour and twenty minutes, there was plenty of time to flesh it out a little more.

Still looking forward to his next one though.

I'll show anything I think is Fest worthy. I didn't get a chance to see the original, but when I saw the trailer, I thought it might make a fine Fest film. Then I saw the reviews. Good to know the second is a step up.

Haven't bothered to check your past listings, but if you haven't watched Wyrmwood with a group, you might want to give it a go.

Have not seen this but it looks interesting. I currently have 12 films on my long list to whittle down to 6.

Like I said, I saw the ABC's of Death (first one) and liked the majority of it. Too bad we can't pick out a few of the better ones to show as shorts.

The entry for "F" had me in laughing out loud and I can't imagine what the Fest group would do if they saw it.

Wyrmwood was a pretty good movie that you watch when you don't know what to watch on Netflix.

Cause it's a pain in the balls, and has been a pain in the balls when we've done it, that I'm not interested in that pain in the balls again. Seriously, though, after 23 years of doing this, we've settled into a comfortable rhythm that I'm not interested in upsetting. The addition of shorts, trailers, etc, made the timing of things much harder when we did it in the past, mostly the ancient past.

I remember when Kimfair showed that short parody of Apocalypse Now (the name escapes me right now), and it accidentally started at the end credits, and I was like, "Wow...this really is The End!"

It is just called Pork Lips Now, about a Chinatown butcher selling meat at low low prices. A meat syndicate sends Dullard down to Chinatown to take him out. Hilarious.

Like Kimfair said at the time, it's amazing how they found a guy who looked EXACTLY like Martin Sheen for that.

Grizzly (from The Manitou auteur William Girdler) is hitting Blu-Ray soon...would make a fun Fest movie. :)

It really is. It's far better than his better known Hardware Wars, and the fact that they found an actor who looks so much like that era Martin Sheen was incredible.

Even the Brando guy, with the lighting, was pretty spot on. The guy doing the Kilgore impression, outstanding! I would have liked hearing more from him instead of the long shots with the bikes, but outstanding, just outstanding!

The Brando guy was the director Ernie "Ford" Fosselius.

Here's hoping that this winter won't be as brutal as the last one.

Might I recommend Cooties as a potential Fest selection? I had a lot of fun with this...lots of laughs, good gross-outs, a fun cast and a sub 90-minute running time. The only disappointment is that it's one of those movies that doesn't stop so much as end, but otherwise, it's a hoot.

This is my favorite part from Tales of Halloween, titled, Friday the 31st, in its entirety...

In spoiler tags so the video doesn't load on page load.
Spoiler: show

It completely jumps the shark at the 3 minute mark, then proceeds to grab the shark by the nards and machete fuck it to bloody death.
