Post-apocalyptic flash fiction by me:

By the time the sandstorm passed, the sun had fallen and the orange skies had faded to a bruised brown and purple. The towers still seemed unreachable, perched on a dream horizon. Faint whispers of yesterday clutching at sky that no longer wanted it.

In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be "replaced" by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten. - George Lucas 1988

Very interesting. I LOVE the last sentence in the first paragraph.

Thanks fellas. Just a fun visual I had. The cityscape was actually from a dream. Thought of the idea of someone actually having to GO there and that was the genesis of this little piece.

Doubtful I'll ever revisit this world and explore it some more, but you never know.

Read that as "post-apocalyptic slash fiction" the first time.

In some ways it reminded me of Hell the way that Edward Lee writes it in his trilogy set there. He's a horror writer more known for going for the gross-out than anything actually suspenseful. As such, I'm not a huge fan but I've read a handful of his books including his Inferno trilogy. His Hell is a cut-throat place with hellspawn flying around and everyone trying to double-cross everyone else in order to climb a totally repugnant social ladder. The palaces, etc. are described as ornate but in horrible ways and it's all surrounded by the river Styx.

Yours was more of an apocalyptic, life-among-the-ruins image but the colors, demons and that it was an island made me jump to the comparison.
