It's Star Wars, isn't it? An underappreciated gem of a movie. I really hope you're showing it so that hopefully more people become aware of this amazing cinematic work.

Well, it has to be Thief Of Bagdad, because I'm pretty sure I remember at least 2 or 3 people acting in that film.

You're talking about that Tom Petty documentary about the making of Southern Accents? Yeah, I broke down over that too.

I've been meaning to bump that thread, but Cary's awful comments about Star Wars have me so mad I'm still trying to process how I feel about him now.

It's madness! If Star Wars isn't a Fest movie, what is!?

It's movie announcement day. The eleventh film is... The Thief Of Bagdad (1940). Winner of three Oscars, and a film I originally showed at Fest #5. I am showing this because this is the film I really wanted the audience to pick from last years Fest, but that honor went to Poutrygeist.

The Thief Of Bagdad is a bona fide classic and is flat-out awesome. Great selection.

I was hoping that would be it. I've honestly never seen it but it's been in my queue for a while.

Also, I'm really glad it's not Star Wars.

Star Wars is a sci-fi adaptation of The Thief of Bagdad.

Certainly glad we'll not be subjected to Poultrygeist again.

Always meant to see this eventually.

And like many adaptations, they butchered the fuck out of it. I mean, who in a million years would cast some old English b-movie actor like Alec Guinness as the genie character? For crying out loud, the man's parents named him after a beer! His real last name is Mengele.

I nearly just spit out my coffee!

Another great fact about The Thief Of Bagdad is that Jaffa, the villain is played by Conrad Veidt, who is most famous for playing Cesar in The Cabinet Of Dr. Calagari. That would have been clue 3 if not for the issues with the clues.

Veidt was also the lead in The Man Who Laughs and his look in that film is what inspired the look of The Joker.

Which brings me to why the Batman movie series of the 1980's/early 90's is far superior to Star Wars. First of all, it's much more imaginative and creative in its casting. Jim Carrey as The Riddler? A master stroke! Danny DeVito as The Penguin? A role he was born to play! Arnold as Mr. Freeze? The Oscar snub still infuriates me.

And talk about imaginative set and costume design? I mean, the batsuit had nipples! Talk about progressive!

Sure beats those fucking hippie robes that Mark Hamill wore in that first Star Wars movie. Also, slapping a couple of cinnamon rolls on the side of a woman's head is not exactly leading the charge when it comes to futuristic "Imagineering". Neither is sticking some wheels on a trashcan and adding a bunch of "boops" and "beeps".

Don't get me started on that motherfucker in the ape outfit either.

Remember when light sabres were actually cool? Like around 1977 - 1979?

Actually, one of the things I do like about Star Wars is how there's a large portion of the fanbase who are completely unreasonable if anything remotely changes in that universe. For instance, when the red light sabre from The Force Awakens was first unveiled, some of the fans lost their shit over the fact that the person using it would cut themselves with the red laser hand guard things coming out near the handle. Seriously? It's a fucking movie guys. Just relax and admit that it looked cool.

Then all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over this latest movie was particularly wonderful. Rarely has there been a fanbase who consistently wants the same thing done over and over and over again with the same characters and no surprises.

If I hear Shoe cry one more time...

Honestly, Chris Knight, I don't know how you can stand to sit in a car with him to drive up to Fest. Is that why you all aren't coming this year?

It is surprising how many films have this film playing on a TV somewhere. This is the list I could come up with...

Spoiler: show
Spectral Trip (2017)
The Bar (2017)
Before I Wake (2016)
The Eyes of My Mother (2016)
Blood Bath (2015)
Fuck Buddies (2015)
Bellicosity (2014)
Burying the Ex (2014)
Dosing (2014)
The Hills Run Red (2009)
Igor (2008)
Halloween (2007)
Trick 'r Treat (2007)
Signs (2002)

But seeing that this is tigerpal, it probably isn't on that list.

Likely because it's a public domain title (also why you see Night Of The Living Dead pop up on a lot of TV sets in the movies).

 Well done Cary! You're right and there is.

It's movie announcement day! Our last film is the latest from director Alex de la Iglesia. You may remember him from his sublime clown film "The Last Circus." Our final movie is "El Bar."

YAY!!!!!!!

I looked at his IMDB page and saw he had two I hadn't seen. This one looked like it may be the one but since it just came out last year, I didn't know if you could get a subtitled version yet.

Awesome!

I think this is the first time I've only seen one fest film -- though I've seen snippets of others and certainly knew of some others; Green Slime was always mentioned in SF and horror movie books and in FM, but it was always inaccessible. Until now!

Here we are just about 58 hours from the start of Fest #26! Just a few notes for your information.

Once again, Fest #26 will be held at my apartment at 92 Murdock St #2 Brighton MA 02135. The phone is 617-783-2769. The first film will go in at precisely 6 PM. Dinner (lasagna, of course) will be after the first movie at about 7:45 PM.

There are new scary looking parking restriction signs all over the neighborhood. These are for all the people who are working in all the new developments in the area. They should not affect any Fest goers, as the restrictions are 2 hour max parking 8 am- 6 pm Monday-Friday ONLY, except resident stickered vehicles. Since everyone will be arriving after 4 PM on Friday, this should not be an issue. Please obey all the other parking restrictions which previously existed.

Finally, please have respect for our neighbors and keep voices down when arriving, leaving, and on the porch between the hours of 11 PM and 6 am.

I'm looking forward to seeing many of you on Friday evening for the start of Fest #26!
