Is it Tentacles (the rogue octopus movie from the 1970's)?

Now would I give you the name of the film in the clue? C'mon, Cary, you're better than that!

Today is movie announcement day, and at a late hour, when no one was watching, MOnty got it right! Yes, the ninth movie is The Green Slime (1968). The plot is similar to Alien, and It Came From Outer Space and others, Like Dan Dare, they're from outer space, and yes, they have tentacles! The film also has the most bitching mod theme song since Beware The Blob!

Trailer:

Cool! Another one missing from my "watched" list. I've always heard about it but never watched it.

That movie scared the SHIT out of me as a kid. Of course, the fact that my older brother sat on and nearly smothered me while I was watching it didn't help (gotta love siblings).

Fest is just TWO weeks away!!! Here's the first clue to the ninth movie: He's taken a sudden, keen interest in his ancestry.

It's movie announcement day! Charles Dexter Ward discovers his ancestor may have had a secret for immortality, but experiments with dead bodies is stinky business, even with remains of the world's greatest wizards in the basement. Our tenth film (despite me calling it the ninth for 3 days) is "The Resurrected."

We're coming down to our last two films, folks. Of course, they're the two we want you to see the most, films number 2 and 3! Film 11 starts being teased tomorrow!

I'm really looking forward to hearing what you've been holding back. Of the films already announced, I'm fully on board with Pulgasari, The Resurrected, Trick or Treat, Wild Wild Planet and The Green Slime, plus I'm intrigued by Vampire Cleanup Department. There are no "sleepers" that I can see so far.

I think that if you can stay awake for it, that Bad Ronald will surprise you. It certainly surprised me!

What happened to "Three" Oscars? Did someone guess it already in the Facebook thread?

Looking at the list of movies that have won multiple Oscars, I really only see a couple that would fit in with the Fest crowd. I believe you've already shown The Thief of Baghdad so that's out. Perhaps The Adventures of Robin Hood?

Josh looked up all the three Oscar movies and was just listing them, so I had to change it to multiple to stop that shit in it's tracks.

I'm hoping it's something upbeat like The Diary of Anne Frank or The Killing Fields.

It's obviously On Golden Pond. Non-stop action and the kung fu choreography is exceptional.

That piece of shit was nominated for 3 Oscars? Maybe the people who nominate the awards just watched the lighthouse sequence (which is the only cool part of the movie).

Check out the 1981 BBC miniseries if you like the story. MUCH better. The 2009 series with Eddie Izzard(!) is fucking terrible.

No, it wasn't nominated for any Oscars. I was just goofing around because Kimfair mentioned it was on "the list" and if I recall, I believe the screenplay was written by a blacklisted writer. It was something like that. Either he was blacklisted or the director was. I can't remember and can't be bothered to look it up.

Well, I did. The guy who wrote the sorry excuse for a screenplay was blacklisted (the book is a masterpiece, so the source material was not the issue). The film had two directors, and that explains why the lighthouse sequence feels completely separated from (and much better than) the rest of the film. And also why the Triffids look completely different, depending on the locations.

I've never read Wyndam's (sp?) book, but I have read his novel The Kraken Wakes. It's probably one of the more realistic and off the wall alien invasion books I've read. It's the kind of thing that should be made into a mini-series. It's about aliens who fall from the sky into the ocean and start colonizing the floor at depth. Then they launch invasions from there to kill us off. Ultimately, they start melting the ice caps in an effort to flood us out. It's an extremely well thought out plot although the ending comes a little too quickly.

BBC recently did a great radio adaptation of Kraken, and there's been a bunch of TV series based on Wyndam's work - but apart from Triffids and Village Of The Damned, I don't think his stuff has been made into movies...most of it moves too slow for Hollywood (also, mega depressing endings).
