So, I need to grab some still frames from MP4 videos. Given my limited abilities in this field, I tried looking for youtube videos to help, but don't know how to go about it. Ideas? I have Lightworks as my main video editing software, and I have the usual players.

1. play one of your MP4 files in VLC player (which is a free download).
2. Pause where you want a still, and hit shift S.

This will send a freeze frame of the mp4 to your "Pictures folder" (located in your Libraries folder, viewable from any explorer window in windows 7-10).

Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks, Chris. I ended up picking up a free video program that has an easy photo button to do this. If there's any issues I'll try the VLC player.

Also, if you are so inclined...

If you have Windows 10, it comes with an XBOX app that allows you to record screens\windows as well as take screenshots. It works very well and is very quick, saves the video immediately without much compression. I used it to follow along with some code changes on a remote window and can read all the text clearly. It also lets you edit it a bit.

In Windows 10
Start -> XBOX
Open or go to the window you want recorded
Hit the Windows button on your keyboard + G
Answer 'Yes' that this is a game
It pops up a control panel that you can follow from there
Saves the videos or screenshots in your C:\Users\[username]\Videos\Captures folder
