Hey Cormac, it's annoying when you don't wrap quotation marks around dialogue.

It's really annoying for the first chapter or two, until you get used to it, and only occasionally after that when it's not immediately clear what's dialogue and what isn't.

I don't think his novels would be any worse with quotation marks, and they'd be easier to read. He probably wouldn't be as famous, though. It's distinctive.

If they re-issued all of his books with proper quotation marks, I'd like them a LOT more.

The thing that got to me about this book (and the way it's written) is that when I'd finished it, the whole thing came off like some weird fever dream. I say that in a good way. It stuck with me for months after I read it. I think his punctuation style definitely added to that experience for me with this book.

It doesn't do the same for others of his that I've read though.

The book definitely reads like that. The only other one I've read by him, The Road, less so.

Judging from those two, the guy's pretty bleak.

Bradbury was the first author I fell in love with, and this book, particularly The Veldt were some of my earliest reading memories.

Bradbury has always been hit or miss with me and for every book of his I love there is another that disappoints me, this is particularly true of his short story collections. I loved The Veldt, The Other Foot, The Man and The Exiles but the rest were okay to average.

I really enjoyed it, you're really good at writing characters that I came to care about. I left a review on both Amazon and goodreads. Thanks again Cary

Agreed, JC. Cary's strength here is in the characters, which is way more important than situations and ideas. They're all really well developed, so that by the time all hell begins to break loose you actually care about them.

I've read a good bit of self-pubbed fiction and almost none of it has been worthy of being on the shelves by a legit publisher.

This absolutely is.

If only a legit publisher had agreed.

Just finished today. I 100% agree with character development.

Very well written. I don't really agree with everything he lays out, but he makes a good argument and in the beginning of the book he writes out a good timeline of the studies on consciousness and what they revealed and how they revealed it. It is worth a read if you are at all interested in the subject.
