I know it's been a long while since I've been a regular here, or even made an appearance at all, the reason being that it's been an extraordinarily busy few years. My wife and I had two kids (a girl and a boy), we bought a new house and, most pertinently, we've begun to pursue our dream of starting a film production company. Some of you who may have may already know through facebook, but in October we wrapped principal photography on our first production (as executive producers), Red Letter Day. Written and directed by my longtime friend Cameron Macgowan, it's a dark satire about the tension that lays just under the surface of seemingly placid suburban life. The residents of an insular suburban community wake up one morning to find mysterious red envelopes in their mailboxes containing letters instructing them to kill their neighbors before their neighbours kill them. The film follows a single mother of two teenage children as she tries to navigate the situation as it spirals way beyond her control. It's a pretty cool setup and I think we've packed a lot of bang for our microbudget buck into the film. We've even managed to have a cameo from a horror/exploitation genre veteran in the movie. I'm very excited to share the finished product with you all.

We're currently in the editing stage, I've just been given the first polish of the director's first cut for review, and some of the early feedback we've gotten from people in the industry is extremely positive. We're still weighing our options when it comes to distribution but we're really looking for this film to have a strong festival presence before it goes into general release.

We're staying pretty tight lipped beyond what I've just shared, a big part of the effectiveness of the film is its surprises. I'll post some (spoiler free) promo stills and screencaps as they become available.

Stay tuned!

This is fantastic, Cru! Congrats! Much of this news has slipped past me, as I've mostly stopped using Facebook.

Always, always glad to see people from this crew getting creative and doing interesting things. Hope we'll be able to see this soon. Good luck with it!

Thanks guys. Like I said, I'm really excited about this project and can't wait to show it off.

The comic book aficionados here might be interested to know that we've commissioned comic artist Tim Lane to do the artwork for the festival poster. It's in the final stages of coloring and layout and we'll be unveiling ahead of the release. I'll post some images here soon.

We've also got a promotional sizzle reel cut together. I'm waiting on a couple things before I'm able to share that.

In the meantime, here's the Red Letter Day IMDB Page for those inclined to check it out.

That's pretty kickass, Cru. I like seeing your name with the title "Executive Producer" next to it.

Picture lock today! I sat in on the final edit session this afternoon along with the director and DOP. The editor is rendering the timeline tonight to be sent for VFX, colour grading and the sound mix. Completion of all these elements is scheduled for mid September. We had a bit of a delay in our post production schedule but it meant we are able to hire more experienced people to work on the film (the supervising editor is one of Guy Maddin's regular collaborators and the sound mix is being done by the company that does the Wynonna Earp and Van Helsing tv series).

It's been such a long journey now that the end is approaching it feels so surreal.

Can't wait to share it.

Good to hear and thanks for the update. I'm excited to see it.

P.S. Where and or how will we be able to see it?

A lot of that depends on factors yet to be determined. We're looking to launch the film at a festival, then have it play the festival circuit, to start with. After that I'm sure, at the very least, it will be available on a streaming or VOD service but which service that will be and when it will be made available has yet to be decided.

This sounds amazingly awesome! Austin is fairly artsy, so maybe we might score a screening here.
